ERCOT discussing switchable resources; EIA released an interactive Electricity Data Browser

POV: Power Breakfast

A nearly daily update of energy-related news:

  • In the next couple of weeks, ERCOT will be discussing how it can best resolve issues related to switchable resources around several Texas power plants. In total, there are 4,159 MW of generation being discussed. A staff white paper raised a variety of challenges including how these resources should be designted in ERCOT’s software and when a switchable resource could be dispatched to operate under the reliability unit commitment process in normal operating conditions. Another issue includes how a switchable resource would be required to report its outage status.
  • The EIA released an interactive Electricity Data Browser to provide a comprehensive look into the U.S. electricity sector.
