- The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has asked the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) to develop a new Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Reliability Standard to ensure that critical assets on the electrical grid are protected from potential cybersecurity and physical risks. The CIP will ask each affected entity to create and implement a plan to protect their respective assets and to meet the following four objectives: software integrity and authenticity; vendor remote access; information system planning; and vendor risk management and procurement controls.
- The 2016 U.S. Energy and Employment Report, a report prepared for the DOE by BW Research, presents a look into employment trends in four specific sectors: Electric Power Generation and Fuels, Transmission, Distribution and Storage, Energy Efficiency, and Motor Vehicles. Among other findings, the report found that the Electric Power Generation and Fuel technologies directly employ 1.6 million workers, 63 percent of which work with fossil fuel technologies.
