- The Senate has voted to convene a conference committee with the House to discuss the first major piece of energy legislation in almost a decade. Senator Lisa Murkowski, chair of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, calls this vote a “critical milestone” to passing the bill. Senate committee members will include John Cornyn (R-TX), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), John Barasso (R-WY), Jim Risch (R-ID), Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Ron Wyden (D-OR), and Bernie Sanders (I-VT). Negotiations are set to begin immediately with an aim of signing the bill into law by year end.
- Texas ranked No. 2 overall on CNBC’s America’s Top States for Business 2016, a scorecard on states’ economic climate. This is the fourth consecutive year that the Lone Star State has come in second; in fact, Texas has never been ranked below second place. Each state is scored on more than 60 different measures of competitiveness including infrastructure, cost of doing business, workforce, economy and business friendlies.
