Luminant Academy, a joint partnership between Luminant and Tyler Junior College (TJC), provides technical, craft skills, lean manufacturing and leadership training for Luminant’s power generation and mining teams. The two-story, 24,000 square-foot training facility sits on TJC’s West Campus and includes state-of-the-art training labs, classrooms and simulators that imitate the actual operation of equipment at Luminant’s power plants and mines.
Recently featured in the North Dallas Gazette, Luminant Academy is staffed by a highly skilled team of instructors with more than 280 combined years of power plant and mining experience. The Academy offers a wide variety of technical and safety programs customized for every skill set and experience level.
Available training courses include, but are not limited to:
- OSHA/MSHA safety training
- Mechanical courses
- Electrical instruction
- Power plant and mine training
- Simulated mobile equipment training
- Excel and PowerPoint training
Additionally, students can apply for TJC’s new power plant technology program. Developed with the help of Luminant Academy instructors, the degree plan offers students concentrated training in electrical, mechanical and instrumentation and control technologies.
