Out for a stroll this National Walking Day

Remember to get up and move today!

NWD 2016 - 3This afternoon, we’ve laced up our sneakers to participate in the American Heart Association’s National Walking Day. We walked 1.5-miles (roundtrip) from our downtown headquarters at Energy Plaza to Klyde Warren Park, enjoying the sunshine and remembering the importance of physical activity.

Experts recommend that most adults exercise at least 30 minutes for at least 5 days each week. If 30 minutes at once seems like a lot, remember that you can break it up throughout the day to two or three sessions of 10 to 15 minutes each. The goal is to start moving, since something is always better than nothing!

The health benefits of a daily 30-minute walk include:

  • Lowering your risk of coronary heart disease and stroke
  • Maintaining a healthy weight
  • Reducing or maintaining your blood pressure
  • Lowering your risk of diabetes and some cancers
  • Enhancing your mood
  • Sleeping better
  • More energy!

We encourage you to share your National Walking Day pictures with us by using the hashtag #NWDatEFH.
