A nearly daily update of energy-related news:
- The U.S. used consumed less energy in 2015 than in 2014 and wasted one percent less. This “rejected energy” is tied to an increase in the electricity production sector’s increased efficiency and is reflected by a drop of 59.4 quadrillion BTU in 2014 to 59.1 quads in 2015.
- Reflecting the smallest increase since 2007, the EIA reports that the amount of electricity generated from wind turbines increased by less than 10 MWh in 2015. This despite the fact that wind energy capacity grew to record amounts in the past three years.
- On Friday, a record 175 countries signed the historic Paris Agreement on climate change. The agreement will not officially become active until 55 countries representing at least 55 percent of global emissions have formally joined it, an event that could occur later this year as opposed to the original projected date of 2020.
