A nearly daily update of energy-related news:
- By 2020, there could be almost 100 million homes around the world powered by solar. The off-grid solar market has grown from a non-existent market to $700 million in the past decade; this market is expected to grow to $3.1 billion by the end of the decade.
- The U.S. has about 580 MW of energy storage installed, a 625 percent increase since 2008 (80 MW). In 2015, the country installed storage systems with 221 MW of capacity, enough to power a city the size of Cincinnati, Ohio, for an hour. Drivers for these batteries include the technology’s ability to help run power plants more efficiently and its ability to provide backup support to grids.
