A nearly daily update of energy-related news:

  • The UN Environment Programme released the 10th edition of “Global Trends in Renewable Energy Investment 2016.” In this publication, the UNEP shows that 2015 was a record breaking year for renewable investment with a global investment of $286 billion. UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner said, “Renewables are becoming ever more central to our low-carbon lifestyles, and the record-setting investments in 2015 are further proof of this trend. Importantly, for the first time in 2015, renewables in investments were higher in developing countries than developed.”
  • President Obama and Argentina’s President Macri met during the President’s visit to Argentina this week. The two agreed to take steps to cut carbon emissions from air flights and integrate solar and wind power into electricity grids. Both the U.S. and Argentina committed to signing the Paris global climate agreement late last year. This agreement will be signed in New York on April 22, 2016.
