A nearly daily update of energy-related news:

  • The solar industry could lead to $2 billion in lost revenues for U.S. generators according to a report from ICF International. There are more than 1 million homes in the country expected to have solar panels by the end of April 2016. This statistic is affecting the east coast as grid managers are expected to reduce the amount of electricity they buy from conventional plants by about 1,400 MWs beginning in 2019.
  • The EIA predicts that 2016 will be the first year on record that natural gas-fired generation will exceed coal generation. In EIA’s forecast for 2016, natural gas is expected to provide 33 percent of the generation while coal’s share would fall to 32 percent.
