A nearly daily update of energy-related news:
- ERCOT reports that the system will have sufficient generation to meet the projected peak demands of this year’s spring and summer seasons. Expected peak demand is approximately 58,000 MW; ERCOT’s final Seasonal Assessment of Resource Adequacy (SARA) for spring 2016 has found more than 79,000 MW of generation resources available, 21,000 MW more than is needed. For summer 2016, the SARA report shows that the peak demand could exceed 70,000 MW; ERCOT estimates available generation of more than 79,000 MW to meet this demand.
- This year, electric generating facilities plan to add more than 26 GW of utility-scale generating capacity to the power grid. The energy mix to be added is made up of 9.5 GW of solar, 8.0 GW of natural gas and 6.8 GW of wind, 93 percent of the total additions.
