A nearly daily update of energy-related news:
- Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) predicts that by 2022, electric cars will cost just as much as a traditional car and sales will rise. In 2015, sales of electric vehicles grew by about 60 percent globally; if sales continue at this trajectory, oil demand could be displaced at a rate of 2 million BPD as early as 2023.
- The city of New Orleans has its first utility-scale solar project consisting of 4,000 solar panels. The project will have a one-megawatt capacity, enough to generate electricity to power 160 homes. The project is also testing an advanced battery (a 500 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery) that can store half of the power created by the panels.
