ERCOT reports wind record; DOE prints 3D home with an integrated energy system

A nearly daily update of energy-related news:

  • ERCOT reported that a record-breaking 14,023 MW of wind-generated electricity (45 percent of the system’s load) was used on February 18, 2015 at 9:20 p.m. The state is likely to continue to set records with more than 53 percent of U.S. wind capacity construction taking place in Texas.
  • The Energy Department’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory and industry partners have partnered to create AMIE, or the Additive Manufacturing Integrated Energy project, the world’s first 3D printed house. AMIE is a home, a vehicle and also serves as an entire integrated energy system complete with solar panels and energy storage.
