A nearly daily update of energy-related news:
- The EIA reports that electricity generated from utility-scale renewable plants will grow by 9 percent in 2016. New installations of wind and solar plants will help to generate this growth as well as increases in hydroelectric generation. Changes in electricity generation from other renewable sources – like geothermal or biomass – is projected to remain relatively modest to flat.
- Natural gas overtook coal as the primary source of U.S. power with generation from coal falling to the lowest level in 35 years last November. In November 2015, generators produced 101,866 thousand MWh of electricity with natural gas versus 87,789 thousand MWh with coal.
