A nearly daily update of energy-related news:
- The Philadelphia PUC voted to set net-metering regulations for customers generating their own electricity. With a 3-2 vote on Thursday, the regulations will allow customer-generators to produce up to 200 percent of their annual power needs and receive retail electricity prices for the surplus they sell back to the grid.
- A study released this week found that electric water heaters could be used as thermal batteries and save consumers money while helping grid operators regulate voltage and frequency. The study, titled, “The Hidden Battery – Opportunities in Electric Water Heating” finds that water heaters can be found in more than 40 percent of U.S. homes and account for 9 percent of household electricity consumption, just behind cooling and lighting.
