A nearly daily update of energy-related news:
- Electric utility trends for 2016 include an increased adoption of energy storage. While this technology is still considered too expensive, Electric Light & Power and POWERGRID International state that prices are likely to continue to decline. Other trends for 2016 include a rise in natural gas prices, continued mergers and a growing interest in microgrids.
- According to the AP, Google is expanding Project Sunroof to allow homeowners to gather information on whether rooftop solar panels are a good deal. Project Sunroof was launched in the summer of 2015 in selected metros including San Francisco and Boston. Google has invested more than $1 billion into solar energy in recent years. According to the EIA, solar energy accounts for about 1 percent of the U.S.’s total reported electricity generation.
