Energy demand to grow by 25 percent by 2040; Kyocera Corp. building world's largest floating solar power plant; Hawaiian company operating off grid

A nearly daily update of energy-related news:

  • Exxon Mobil Corp released a report that showed as the global population rises, energy demand will increase by 25 percent by 2040. Oil demand will see a 20 percent growth by 2040 while natural gas demand will grow more than any other source and account for 40 percent of the overall increase. China and India will produce 50 percent of the global demand increase.
  • Kyocera Corp. is building the world’s largest floating solar power plant. The 13.7 MW power plant will be built near Tokyo and will generate approximately 16,170 MWh, enough to power almost 5,000 homes.
  • Mari’s Garden, a Hawaiian aquaponic nursery company, is using solar PV, battery storage and an energy management system to operate off the grid.  The company has been operating continuously for four months using power from EnSync’s energy management system with 25kW of solar panels and 40 Aquion battery stacks (25 kW), and 92 kWh of energy storage.
