A nearly daily update of energy-related news:

  • Retrofitting older buildings to make them more energy efficient has become a $20 billion industry in the US. California was the first state to impose efficiency standards 40 years ago; the state claims the standards have helped to lower electric bills by $74 billion since 1978.
  • According to the National Solar Jobs Census, jobs in the solar industry grew by 20 percent in 2015. This marked the third consecutive year in which this industry’s employment figures grew by 20 percent. The solar industry accounts for 1.2 percent of all jobs created in the US in 2015.
  • Global information company, IHS, predicts the energy storage market will “rise significantly” in 2016. During Q4 2015, battery cost reductions, government funding and utility tenders led to a 45 percent growth in the global energy storage pipeline over Q3 2015.
