A nearly daily update of energy-related news:
- President Obama signed a transportation bill that included provisions for protecting the U.S. electric grid against attacks and outages. H.R. 22, the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act), also gives the President authority to declare a grid emergency should there be any physical or cyber-attacks. Also included in the bill is the ability for the Secretary of Energy to develop a reserve of transmission equipment for emergency situations.
- During The International New York Times Energy for Tomorrow conference in Paris, U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, stated that he would propose the agreement for tackling climate change as a jobs and economic issue. The Secretary stated that there could be millions of jobs created by this agreement and that investing in renewable energy would be a bigger opportunity than the information technology boom in the U.S.
