- Bloomberg reports that China will stop approving new coal mines for the next three years in an effort to curb pollution in the country. This is the first time that China has suspended approval of new coal mines. China will also close more than 1,000 coal mines in 2016, taking out 60 million metric tons of unneeded capacity.
