2015 energy trends; Natural gas surpasses coal

  • Energy storage advancements, a shift away from coal and the launch of global and domestic climate policy are among just a few of the trends that will mark 2015 as the year that transforms how we get energy. Other key 2015 trends, according to The Washington Post, include the maturation of wind and solar energy and low oil and natural gas prices.
  • According to the EIA, natural gas has surpassed coal as the country’s primary fuel for generating electricity. This is the first time since 1973 that less electricity came from coal than from natural gas. Data to support this is sourced from April, July, August, September and October of 2015.
