UPS to use energy from landfills; California utility to embrace energy-storage technology

  • More than 140 UPS trucks in Mississippi and Tennessee will be powered by renewable natural gas (RBG) that is produced by landfills. The company will use approximately 15 million diesel gallon gas equivalents of renewable natural gas as part of their multi-year contract.
  • A California utility company is beginning to use energy-storage technology instead of natural gas-fired peaker plants to meet electricity shortfalls. The company plans to solicit 120 megawatts of additional capacity from batteries in the new year.
