A nearly daily update of energy-related news:
- The U.S. Senate is likely to take on a microgrid policy early in the new year. If passed, the Energy Policy Modernization Act of 2015 will increase the federal role in supporting microgrids. The bill will promote a range of technologies to make the grids increasingly reliable and cyber-secure.
- Advocates for wind and solar energy are looking forward to congressional approval for the federal budget deal that will extend federal tax credits for renewable power by five years. Within the proposed agreement, the tax credits are extended through 2016, but are then reduced in the later years of the agreement. The deal also includes a provision for lifting the crude oil ban.
