Wind generation breaks records; EIA introduces electric generator database; Secretary Moniz interview with Scientific American

A nearly daily update of energy-related news:

  • In November, wind generation in Texas broke a 31-month-old record share of total energy. Platts reports that wind farms produced 18.4 percent of ERCOT’s total load in November compared to 12.3 percent in October and 15.1 percent last November.
  • The EIA introduced a Preliminary Monthly Electric Generator Inventory to provide the status of U.S. electric generating plants. The database provides a list of the plants that are retiring from the fleet as well as those being added.
  • U.S. Secretary of Energy, Ernest Moniz, speaks with Scientific American about “Mission Innovation,”  the clean energy initiative announced at last week’s Paris climate talks. Secretary Moniz speaks to the need for cost reduction in clean technologies as well as enabling new technologies to be able to meet the global demand for energy.
