Luminant’s Monumental Dragline Move Featured in Coal Age Magazine

Luminant’s technique for transporting four draglines – without disassembly – was featured as the cover article in the November 2015 issue of Coal Age magazine in The Art of the Move. It started with just an idea, but with innovation and grit, we moved a combined 40-million-pounds across more than 30 miles.

Dragline_collageWith each dragline roughly the size of a high school gym and an added boom extending approximately 300 feet, we developed a groundbreaking transportation method using interconnected trailers to safely and meticulously complete the operation. We worked together with state and local agencies to ensure that when we transported the draglines across public roads, pipelines and overhead utility lines, we had safety first and foremost on our minds.

Because of the creative minds at work, we reduced the time to relocate the draglines, achieved significant costs savings and saved countless production time.

To watch how we made it happen, take a look at Eye on Luminant: Luminant Completes Industry-Leading Dragline Relocation Project.
