A nearly daily update of energy-related news:
- The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) is reporting that wind energy can save Texas consumers more than $15 billion dollars. In a report published today, the AWEA and the Wind Energy Foundation say that wind energy can become a leading source of electricity in the U.S. by 2050 by providing 35 percent of the electricity across the country. However, they call for an extension to the Production Tax Credit and the Investment Tax Credit to help make this happen.
- Two U.S. Senators are introducing a bill today aimed to provide tax-exempt activity bonds to help with carbon capture and storage (CCS). This is similar to a bill introduced in the 1970’s which helped to clean up air pollution during the 1970’s and 1980’s.
- As the world climate summit in Paris approaches, China is asking for a legally binding agreement to be reached by the time the summit ends. This differs from U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry’s goal for the summit. Currently, China is the world’s largest carbon emitter.
