  • Nuclear energy plants supply 19.5 percent of the electricity in the U.S. and is currently our largest source of carbon-free electricity.  Nuclear energy also provides for 475K jobs in the U.S. and contributes $60B to the U.S. GDP.  More information can be found on an interactive map and infographic in The New York Times.
  • According to an article in BloombergBusiness, wind generation in Texas has grown roughly 10-fold since 2005. Coal’s share in power generation in Texas (and several other states) is decreasing.
  • As discussed in a RenewableEnergyWorld.com article, increased use of batteries and renewable energy could affect utility companies. Currently, the cost for energy from batteries is not comparable to that of natural gas; however, some say that competition could be near.
