A nearly daily update of energy-related news:
- Moody’s Investors Service says that the unregulated U.S. utility sector will see a downtown in 2016. As stated in POWER magazine, Moody’s states that companies with coal and nuclear plants “are under additional stress” while utilities with gas-fired plants should fare better in the upcoming year. The market should see lowered demand because of conservation efforts and a weak economy.
- The EPA has announced where the Clean Power Plan hearings will take place. The four two-day hearings will occur in Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Denver and Washington D.C.
- The Washington Post reports that 1.3 billion people are living without electricity. India has the largest population without access to electricity, roughly 304 million people. Some countries are looking to renewable sources of energy to provide electric power to these underserved populations.
