With temperatures above 100 degrees, demand is expected to remain high the next few days, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas says.
  • Exxon Mobil’s move to sign two agreements expanding shale drilling in Texas may signal an upswing in energy deals, Reuters reports.
  • North Dakota is considering a lawsuit, separate from other states because of the its use of lignite, against the Environmental Protection Agency’s greenhouse gas emissions rule. From The Associated Press report:

“EPA makes the assumption that if traditional coal-fired power plants shut down due to the rule, that coal will find its way to another market,” [Lignite Energy Council Director Jason] Bohrer said. “That’s not going to happen with North Dakota lignite.”
