- The surge in August heat in Texas has caused electricity prices to surge to the highest levels since the polar vortex of 2014, with spot on-peak wholesale power averaging $66.84 a megawatt-hour so far in August, according to Bloomberg.
- Texas used a record amount of natural gas to generate electricity last week, averaging 4.5 billion cubic feet per day, San Antonio Business Journal reports, topping the previous record of 4.4 billion cubic feet per day in 2012. The U.S. Energy Information Administration attributes the record consumption to the state’s growing population, triple-digit temperatures and a large amount of natural gas capacity.
