States ask EPA for advanced notice on final carbon rules; EIA expects mined coal to decrease, then slightly rebound

  • The Environmental Council of the States is urging the Environmental Protection Agency to give states a few days advance notice before the final Clean Power Plan rules are released in August, Utility Dive reports.
  • Coal production would fall 25 percent by 2024 under the Clean Power Plan, according to the Energy Information Administration, but “would be made up, somewhat, in the 15 years after 2025” due to an expected growth in electricity demand and higher natural gas prices.
