Well before the state’s Transmission & Distribution Utilities rolled out millions of advanced electricity meters across Texas, TXU Energy was building plans and services to translate the mountains of data from those meters into benefits for consumers and the market. Now, the company has unveiled the latest plan in those efforts: TXU Energy Free Mornings and Evenings.
TXU Energy Free Mornings and EveningsSM is yet another plan to give customers a real incentive – free electricity – to monitor when they use electricity. Combining that incentive with resources that help customers control their consumption has created enormous success for TXU Energy and tremendous benefits for customers and the market.
Products and services that TXU Energy customers can use to monitor and manage their consumption include the TXU iThermostatTM, the first two-way, programmable thermostat in the state’s competitive market, and the TXU Energy MyEnergy DashboardSM, a central place when and how much they are using electricity.
TXU Energy Free Mornings and Evenings and TXU Energy Free Nights® are part of the company’s suite of Right Time Pricing PlansSM, which also includes TXU Energy Business Power HoursSM.
“There’s not a one-size-fits all solution when it comes to electricity because everyone has different preferences, lifestyles and budgets,” says Scott Hudson, chief operating officer for TXU Energy. “That makes it important to listen to customers and offer a variety of options.”
So what’s the right time for electricity consumption? The answer is as diverse as Texas.
There is, however, a wider benefit to using electricity before 3 p.m. and after 7 p.m. on weekdays. That’s because the main electricity grid in Texas faces its highest demand for electricity between 3 and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. By giving customers free electricity outside of those hours, TXU Energy delivers a specific benefit to customers and it helps the electricity grid by encouraging consumers to shift away from peak demand hours.
