Fire brigade members at Luminant’s Martin Lake and Monticello Power Plants recently took their safety training to new heights. Literally.
The 40 employees completed a 50-hour confined space training course through United Training Specialists at the Longview Fire Department Training Center, which included simulating rope rescues and practicing rappelling exercises.
“Our fire brigade members are oftentimes the first responders for our sites,” says Ron Blair, Monticello safety specialist. “As a part of their commitment to their co-workers, they strive to continually enhance their safety knowledge and lifesaving skills. We host quarterly fire training exercises, but this course was a unique opportunity for our employees to simulate duties that they could encounter in the event of a confined space emergency.”
Following the confined space course, Monticello’s fire brigade continued their drills by conducting live fire training at the plant, extinguishing simulated pit fires and burn trailer fires.
