Bill to end Texas support for solar, wind energy stalled; EPA rumored to remove carbon sequestration from power plan

POV: Power Breakfast

A nearly daily round-up of news for your consideration:

  • A bill to end Texas’ renewable energy credit program and freeze project to expand transmission lines for renewable energy is on the ropes, The Dallas Morning News writes. From the report:

“On Sunday, with the legislative session winding down, [bill author Sen. Troy] Fraser added an amendment to another power sector bill that, while leaving the credit program alone, would end the transmission project – known as Competitive Renewable Energy Zones, or CREZ. But on Wednesday the fate of that amendment looked precarious, after the House returned a companion bill to the Senate without Fraser’s amendment.”

  • The Environmental Protection Agency may drop the carbon sequestration requirement from the final version of the Clean Power Plan, VOX.com reports. From the article: “The fact that all attempts to produce a working coal-CCS project in the US have failed (or are mid-failure) does not speak well of the viability of CCS. According to these rumors, EPA has started getting nervous about defending the technology in court and may remove CCS from its list of available control technologies.”
