Powering a Healthier Workforce

Creative approach keeps the people powering the lives of Texans empowered to improve health and wellness

Free health screenings and easy access to preventative and urgent care are among the programs promoting nutritional education and physical activity in our workplaces.

“We will never give up on you, so don’t give up on yourself.” Those words were a turning point for a TXU Energy employee looking to shed an extra 40 pounds. With a thorough check-up at the company’s on-site clinic and guidance from an on-staff nutritionist, the employee is making better food choices, incorporating new forms of exercise and, with 17 pounds lost so far, is on her way to better health.

We recognize that the wellness of our employees is critical to their safety and the success of our company. Providing simple, easy access to nutritional know-how is a no-brainer to keeping the people of EFH, TXU Energy and Luminant healthy.

In addition to year-round services, like the preventative care the MyHealth Clinic provides to thousands of employees and their families, March’s designation as National Nutrition Month is opportunity to highlight new developments in our focus on health.

Since many of Luminant’s plants and mines are located in remote areas without easily accessible healthcare, our MobileDoc clinic travels between several of our East Texas worksites to provide on-site preventive and urgent care, as well as nutritional coaching, weight management and lifestyle change programs to address chronic conditions. Recently, we expanded these services with a MyHealth Clinic to serve the employees at several of our power plants and mines in Central Texas.

Health-conscious employees chat with vendors at a recent company-sponsored health fair.

Throughout the month, employees have been invited to on-site health fairs for free for hearing tests and blood pressure screenings, to learn how to get the most from their health insurance plans, and to visit with health partners about wellness programs including fitness and weight management, heart health, tobacco cessation, diabetes and eye care, sleep disorders and other useful resources.

Our creative implementation of a variety of programs promoting nutritional education and physical activity in the workplace and our communities recently won the Gold Standard Fit-Friendly Company Award from the American Heart Association. It’s the ninth consecutive nod from the AHA.

“Coming to work for a company that values my health and well-being makes my experience here meaningful and even more enjoyable,” said Dina Mistry, EFH wellness consultant. “Our companies truly go above and beyond to provide employees physical activity support and healthy eating options.”
