- While the Electricity Reliability Council of Texas expects the electricity grid to sufficiently meet demand this spring and summer, there are still concerns in the Rio Grande Valley, The McAllen Monitor reports. The area saw controlled rolling outages in October.
- Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry says states should handle subsidies or tax credits for renewable energy, The Associated Press reports from an agricultural policy forum in Iowa that drew several Republican presidential hopefuls.
- States should carefully consider the consequences of heeding Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s call to ignore the Environmental Protection Agency’s limits on power plant emissions, energy experts tell The Hill. If states don’t write their own plan, “the EPA would probably have to achieve a state’s entire reduction target by cutting emissions directly from power plants, which would cost much more to electric customers.”
