Utilities push for more vehicle charging stations; Study says Clean Power Plan won't jeopardize reliability

POV: Power Breakfast

A nearly daily round-up of news for your consideration:

  • Utilities in several regions are getting into the electric vehicle charging business with the goal of making EVs viable for millions of drivers, The New York Times reports, but are facing resistance from competing companies and ratepayers.
  • The Obama administration’s climate change rules will not jeopardize or compromise the reliability of the U.S. power system, according to a new study by Analysis Group energy experts. The report notes that many of the public comments “tend to assume that policy makers, regulators, and market participants will stand on the sidelines until it is too late to act. The history of the electric system and its ability to respond to previous challenges including industry deregulation and previous Clean Air Act regulations … prove that this is highly unlikely. These challenges will be solved by the dynamic interplay of regulators and market forces with many solutions proceeding in parallel.”
