The United Way of Metropolitan Dallas’ 90th anniversary year culminated in an epic gala concert Friday with country music star Blake Shelton, R&B icon Usher and a host of celebrities on hand to celebrate the agency’s history of changing lives in North Texas. The people of EFH, Luminant and TXU Energy were honored to be a part of this initiative to honor United Way’s success.
To mark 90 years of serving North Texans and unite the community for future service, the United Way embarked on a year-long journey with nine community service projects lead by nine Dallas Cowboys legends. Volunteers from 48 corporate partners gave more than 10,000 hours of service to impact 4,600 lives in North Texas. On Veterans Day, the people of EFH, Luminant and TXU Energy partnered with United Way, Roger Staubach and The Salvation Army’s Carr P. Collins Social Service Center in Dallas to refurbish facilities that provide transitional housing and support services to local veterans.
“Our company has a long history with United Way and our investments in the United Way Community Impact Fund have helped nearly 642,000 people change their lives by leaving poverty, graduating and living healthy, responsible lives,” said Danielle Cooper, the company’s 2014 United Way campaign chair. “We share a commitment to strengthening our communities and look forward to further partnering with the United Way in uniting the next generation of change.”
