Power Breakfast for Jan. 15, 2015

Business customers highly satisfied with electric utilities; Nuclear reactors facing early retirements; World's poor most affected by fossil fuel opposition

POV: Power Breakfast

A nearly daily round-up of news for your consideration:

  • Business customers hit the highest level of satisfaction with their electric utility since 2009, a new J.D. Power study shows. The high mark is “based primarily on a substantial year-over-year increase in satisfaction with power quality and reliability, which, in turn, is driven by a significant improvement in utilities’ efforts to provide more accurate outage information.”
  • The U.S. is facing a wave of early nuclear reactor retirements because of political opposition and changing market pressures, Power Magazine reports in its review of at-risk plants.
  • Opposition to fossil fuels hurts the poor most of all, including their danger from climate change, and restricts the “energy of opportunity” that underdeveloped countries need to grow and survive, Alex Epstein of the Center for Industrial Progress writes in Forbes.
