Amping Up New Year’s Resolutions

With the help of company-sponsored programs, the people of EFH, Luminant and TXU Energy are empowered to reach their personal goals

For many of us, 2015 is the year to aim high and reach personal goals – from starting a small business to enhancing professional skills, going back to school or implementing healthy habits. POV talked to the people of EFH, Luminant and TXU Energy to see how company-supported tools and resources are helping them strive for and achieve their goals.

Megan Wilson, an EFH IT senior analyst, on getting her Master of Business Administration:

“Education has always been important to me so when I found out that EFH has an education reimbursement program, I knew I had to take advantage and go back to school to get my MBA at the University of Texas Dallas. I’ve already had several experiences at work where I’ve been able to pull from what I’ve learned in class, as well as what I’ve learned from my fellow students.”

Andrew Moultrie, TXU Energy product development marketing associate, on improving public speaking and leadership:

“On the commodity product development team I find myself speaking to various groups across the company – sales channels, pricing and the executive leadership team – and this year I have opportunities to speak to my department for various marketing initiatives. My goal is to use tact, negotiation and confidence when speaking to ultimately achieve alignment on whatever my topic may be. Participating in the Electric Toasters (one of the company’s Toastmasters chapters) has given me a recurring opportunity to learn to be comfortable when speaking to a group.”

Adam Bernardi, Luminant air-quality control system and material handling engineering manager, on running with Luminant: Powering Health & Fitness:

“My goal for the year is to break 1 hour 57 minutes in a half marathon, which was my previous best time. Luminant’s running program is a great way to stay in shape and get to know your co-workers outside of work.”

Sharon Jarvis, EFH compliance audit specialist, on owning a small business

“Working full time, keeping a household and running my ice cream business Creamy Taste of Heaven takes plenty of financial and business assistance and planning. At the beginning of every year, there are some key financial and business to-dos, including paying any tax bills by the deadline and setting new savings goals for the family and the business.  For 2015, I am looking to expand Creamy Taste of Heaven event planning by adding a game/party station. This will allow us to throw parties of various types on the inside of the trailer during the months when inclement weather won’t allow an outdoor party.”

Stephanie Allison, TXU Energy Performance Excellence Organization analyst, on balancing parenting and working full time:

“When I returned to work, I struggled with balancing my new mommy routine with my work responsibilities. I wondered how many other working parents could benefit from being able to share the joys and challenges in balancing work and life. Thus, Parents at Work (one of the company’s many employee resource groups) was formed to give all TXU Energy caregivers a parenting network. For 2015, we are expanding our committee and are looking for volunteers.”

A Soaring Success

An abundance of wildlife, including numerous bald eagles, call Luminant’s sites and reclaimed land home.
