On Oct. 6, 1964, Luminant’s David Forbus began working for the company – then known as Dallas Power & Light. Fifty years later, he’s still on the job keeping mine equipment in top shape as an electrician at Oak Hill Mine in East Texas.
His ongoing, half-century commitment to powering Texas is resolute. Most notably, David has achieved 50 years without a lost-time injury.
“I find it pretty unbelievable that I’ve worked here this long. The years have gone by in a blink, like a dream,” Forbus says. “I feel very grateful and thankful to work for a company where I haven’t missed a paycheck in the last 50 years. From my experience, when you find a good job, you keep it.”
Over the years, David has powered Texas as a hired hand, lineman, train operator and electrician. His contributions to the company and his coworkers are immeasurable, according to Jeff Noble, Oak Hill Mine manager.
“I congratulate David on his 50 years of service without a lost-time injury,” Noble says. “His job roles have been physically demanding at times, which makes this accomplishment even more significant. Thank you, David, for your leadership and service to the company.”
