Fall is in full swing, and as of today, so is Energy Awareness Month – a unique opportunity for consumers to consider how their day-to-day activities depend on and use electricity, and to discover new ways to control and reduce their consumption. To help Texans celebrate, TXU Energy published an interactive quiz called “Watt’s the Difference?” so families can find fun ways to identify energy expenditures and savings opportunities.
The 2014 Energy Awareness Month theme, “A Sustainable Energy Future: Putting All the Pieces Together,” is an echo of TXU Energy’s mission to educate and equip consumers to understand their relationship with electricity, the role they play in the Texas energy market, and how having quality options and benefits from a retail electricity provider can encourage consumers to take control of their usage and save money.
Being mindful of usage and making simple changes to daily routines can help conserve energy and save money.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the environmental effect of turning lights and computers off is the same as carpooling and planting trees. Considering nearly 60 percent of Texans’ consumption can come from appliances, electronics, water heating and lighting, it is important to consider how our daily habits with heating and cooling, appliances, lighting and water management can directly impact how much energy we consume, and therefore how much our electricity bills cost.
