New Railroad Commissioner; natural gas futures rise; senators request EPA extension

  • Christi Craddick was elected to replace Barry Smitherman as chair of the Texas Railroad Commission, KWTX reports.
  • Forecasts for an August heat wave across much of the country spurred natural gas futures to a three-week high, Bloomberg reports. Gas deliveries to electricity generators, which account for 31 percent of gas demand, rose 15 percent from June 21.
  • Two senators are expected to ask the Environmental Protection Agency to extend the public comment period for its power plant carbon emissions proposal by 60 days, The Hill reports.
