Doing something nice for someone else also brings more happiness to the giver, new research from Stanford Graduate School of Business has found. And people who regularly do volunteer work and frame volunteerism in concrete terms rather than in abstract ones report greater happiness.

The people of EFH, Luminant and TXU Energy can certainly speak to that, volunteering more than 3,300 hours in Texas communities since January – our highest company-wide volunteer service record to date.  Through our Energy In Action volunteer program, these volunteers donate their time and resources to improve the lives of those who work and live in the communities we serve around the state.

As of August 2014, we’ve logged 3,369 hours of employee volunteer service and $79,908 in employee and corporate contributions, benefitting 30 organizations across Texas, including:

In a recent example of connecting people and passions to bring about real happiness, several industrious TXU Energy volunteers recently transformed a dining room at Mosaic House, a safe haven for survivors of human rights abuses, into a warm and welcoming space.

“I’m blown away by the generosity employees have shown and their enthusiasm for giving back to their communities,” says Andrea Pelosi, Energy in Action chair. “As we enter the United Way campaign and the holiday season of giving, there will be many more opportunities to volunteer and keep up the momentum.”
