Electric vehicle sales up; gadgets drive utilities to change; ERCOT spot power up

powerbreakfastA nearly daily round-up of news for your consideration:

  • Electric vehicle sales in the U.S. are up 35 percent over last year, VOX.com reports. • As Americans plug in more gadgets than ever, move to warmer climates and increasingly make their own power, it’s a new world for electric utilities. From the Wall Street Journal article:

“Utilities aren’t waiting for better times. They’re increasing spending on big solar projects and energy-efficiency programs for which they earn income as investors or managers. And many executives are searching for new services to offer.”
