New markets for nuclear power; New York nuclear plant closing; energy efficiency largely untapped

powerbreakfastA nearly daily round-up of news for your consideration:

  • At a site near Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Lockheed Martin is working with Chinese engineers to build that country’s next generation of nuclear power plants. The project comes as American nuclear technology companies look for new markets after the Fukushima meltdown in Japan sent the U.S. (where only five reactors are under construction) and Western European countries backing away from nuclear power, according to the Dallas Morning News.
  • New York officials have proposed temporarily closing the Indian Point nuclear power plant in spring and summer months to protect fish in the Hudson River. The Wall Street Journal reports business groups and the plant operator are opposed, citing the risk to summer jobs and system disruptions.
  • Energy efficiency is a common, but largely untapped, category of the Internet of Things, Forbes reports. From the article:

“While some still view these types of IoT devices as a luxury rather than a need, the real vales comes when you leverage these use cases with business processes.”
