  • Nearly three-fourths of energy executives surveyed by KPMG believe the U.S. is on the way to becoming energy independent by 2030, Bloomberg reports, thanks to technology that has opened access to shale oil and gas in Texas and other states.
  • America’s first new nuclear reactor of the 21st century is on track to be completed next year, the Chattanooga Times Free-Press reports. But nuclear opponents are fighting the plant’s operating license until the Nuclear Regulatory Commission resolves what to do with nuclear waste and ensures the new plant can withstand a natural disaster.
