Doing good is good for you. That’s the word from a recent study on the health benefits of volunteering. Turns out, turning up for a cause you’re passionate about helps volunteers feel healthier. Our people tell us that organized volunteer programs also lend purpose and meaning. And they should know: since launching our corporate-wide volunteer program Energy in Action one year ago, the people of EFH, Luminant and TXU Energy have volunteered more than 4,000 hours in communities across Texas.

In fact, TXU Energy’s Community Time Off program encourages each employee to take advantage of up to eight hours of time off annually during work hours to volunteer in a school or charity of their choice.

To celebrate this anniversary and outstanding accomplishment as well as National Volunteer Month, our people kept the momentum going by picking up more than 30 bags of litter along FM 2658 near Martin Lake Plant, sprucing up an outdoor space for My Possibilities‘ adults with disabilities, sharing stories and s’mores with Trinity River Mission, and volunteering to make a difference with Bike MS 150 Bike Rally, Dallas Arboretum Children’s Adventure Garden, American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Titus-Morris Counties and Freestone County, veteran mentoring and support with American Corporate Partners, and many other activities.
