In a recent video, TXU Energy offered three key factors for businesses to land great electricity contracts, including getting value-added services from their retailer. Bernard Weinstein, associate director of the Maguire Energy Institute in SMU’s Cox School of Business, says the TXU Energy Brighten® GreenBack program is delivering tremendous value.

TXU Energy announced today that the GreenBack program helped participating companies cut electricity usage by 682 million kilowatt-hours from 2009 to 2013. Based on a conservative price estimate, those participating companies saved about $51 million. That’s money they were able to spend on their people, their products and services and their communities. And that’s just one of the benefits Weinstein noted.

“Because a dollar spent by a business creates up to $5 in additional economic activity, TXU’s Brighten GreenBack program is delivering tremendous value,” Weinstein said. “At the same time, taking demand off the state’s power grid helps ensure reliability for everyone.”

TXU Energy measured consumption and cost savings for the first five years of the program, but it also noted that the savings are ongoing. Many of the energy efficiency programs financed in part by the GreenBack program deliver savings for decades.

Whether it’s working with residential customers, small businesses or large, commercial and industrial organizations, TXU Energy helps all customers understand and manage their power consumption so they can put their money to other uses and help ensure a reliable supply of electricity for everyone. Helping in those ways creates long, trusting relationships that deliver value to the customers and the state.
